Many of us today cannot believe that this nation
would sink to the condition that it is in this morning. We are
in moral and religious decay. A nation bankrupt of truth,
knowledge of God, law and order, and very little criminal
justice system. This nation has forsaken God and has no time
hardly for Him.
In the text, Hosea’s call was to a sick nation.
He called for repentance from Israel: “Come, and Let Us return
unto the Lord.” He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath
smitten, and he will bind us up.
Israel had departed from the Lord in their
worship and prayer life. Lesser things had all their attention.
Their worship lacked faith and the land needed knowledge of God.
Their worship had become formalistic. It was not a life-changing
experience. Could this be a commentary on our country today?
Israel had departed from the Lord in their words. Words measure
our spiritual condition. They reveal what occupies the mind.
They revealed the state of the heart. (Matthew
12:33-37) The people had made profanity their practice.
Profanity is one of the marks of decadence. “…put…. filthy
communication out of your mouth. (Colossians
3:8) Lying is not to be taken lightly. Believers are to put
away lying.
(Ephesians 4:25)
Israel had also departed from the Lord in their
mission. They were to set examples for the surrounding nations.
Three marks of decay were prevalent in their life: Killing. (Exodus
20:13) Stealing. (Exodus
20:15) Committing adultery. (Exodus
20:14) This sounds like America today. O how America has
gone away from God! Just as Hose had invited Israel back to God,
I am inviting America back to God also.
Our nation is in serious trouble today. One
person rules this nation. He is corrupt, crime ridden, wicked,
will do anything to have his way, morally unfit, no soundness at
all in his heart nor head. But today a call of hope to a
troubled world is being extended. The Word of God says, “If my
people which called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will
heal the land.” (II
Chronicles 7:14)
America, you are being invited to return to the
Lord. In spite of your sins you can be forgiven. God still calls
the wayward to return; He will pardon, cleanse, and revive you
if you humble yourself. There is hope in Jesus. God is at work
through His Son. God has spoken in these last days from
Pentecost to the kingdom (Acts
2:17). He is speaking to us now; He is not silent in any
age. Prophetic developments through which he is speaking. The
knowledge explosion (Daniel
12:4). He is speaking through new diseases (Matthew
24:7). Signs in nature: earthquakes, mudslides, tornadoes,
storms, fires, moral decline (Matthew
24:12). God’s prophetic plan is being fulfilled. God has
spoken to us through His Son. Everything we need to know is in
Jesus. If you want to know about God’s grace, love, God’s power,
His wisdom, and about the future; just study Jesus. It’s all in
Him.
